Before the days of Xbox and Rock Band, before high-speed internet and endless diversions, times were simpler, people were calmer, and toys were way, way cooler.
Lego is one of those toys. Invented in 1947, modern-day Lego has some of the fancy trappings of our cosmopolitan world, with some kits that come like paint-by-numbers. What I remember (and covet) is the Lego that used to come in bins or bags, where the only limit on what you could make was your creativity – though convincing other people that that pixellated blob really was a futuristic city was a little more difficult…
Harking back to the good old days of yore, Telus World of Science at Science World’s latest exhibit was all about the wonderful things you can do with those little coloured blocks. The theme was Wheels, Wings and Waves, and the results were staggering.
