Bard on the Beach starts this weekend!

Comedy of Errors
One of Vancouver’s seminal events,  the Shakespeare festival Bard on the Beach down at Vanier Park, opens this weekend! A tradition in my family, I’ve been attending a performance every summer since its start – 20 years ago.

The 2009 line-up includes The Comedy of Errors, Othello, All’s Well That Ends Well, and Richard II.  If you’re visiting this summer, or a local who’s never made it to a show, this is truly a memorable experience. Talented actors performing classic plays, set to a beautiful West Coast backdrop of beach, water, skyline and mountain – it’s a blast.  It’s also likely to sell out, so these early shows are your best chance to get in on the action.

Which plays are you planning to see this season? Any fave Bard moments of years past? Leave your stories in the comments section!

Here’s to the start of summer!

Underwater Treasure in Vancouver

Peeking under the Granthall

Peeking under the Granthall

The following post was contributed by Tourism Vancouver’s own Stephen Pearce, VP Leisure Travel and Digital Marketing. Stephen is an avid diver and has graciously agreed to blog about his diving adventures near Vancouver.

Located in British Columbia on the Pacific Coast, Vancouver is only a short step away from dozens of scuba diving locations. Most of them are beach accessible, but there are also numerous charters to a diverse number of wrecks and artificial reefs located only a short trip away.

The readers of Scuba Magazine regularly rank British Columbia as one of the top diving destinations in North America. It’s renowned for the quality of its wall diving, wreck diving and shore diving.

In a series of articles I’ll profile some of the awesome locations that are less than 40 minutes away from downtown Vancouver. Comments and pics from some of your favourite locations would be great.

The Bachelorette comes to Vancouver!

ABC's The Bachelorette
Hey ladies, sick of the local dating scene?

Vancouver’s own Jillian Harris is trying something new as she stars in ABC’s Bachelorette, airing Mondays this spring.

Jillian drew plenty of attention as she competed for Jason Mesnick on the last season of The Bachelor, and will get to call the shots this time round as she chooses from 30 potential suitors.

A restaurant interior designer in Vancouver, expect Jillian to bring the Canadian flavour to this hit show, and maybe even invite some lucky men back to her home-town to check out all we have to offer up north.

Catch it 8 pm Mondays on ABC.

Get Ready to Eat! Vancouver

Like to cook? Like to watch? Like to eat?

With fare for the amateur chef and the lazy gourmet alike, Vancouver’s Food + Cooking Festival returns this weekend.

From May 22nd – 24th, BC Place Stadium will be taken over by celebrity chefs, saucy sommeliers, and plenty of local restaurants offering up bite-sized tastes of their wares to curious locals and visitors.

It’s a great way to while away a day while picking up some new tricks and indulging in some unusual snacks. Bon appetit!
