Vancouver is a City of Vampires

wesley
We’re not really sure what it’s all about, but Vancouver loves itself some vampires. Take Blade, for example, starring Wesley Snipes as a half-human, half-vampire who utterly dislikes his immortal self so much that he’s dedicated his life to vampire-slaying (he uses UV headlights and silver bullets, in case you were wondering). All three Blade films were partly shot in the city, and you can see a lot of Vancouver in them. Many scenes were shot on the streets of Gastown, and you might recognize Granville Street in Blade: Trinity where Snipes incinerates a pack of vampires without even expressing any sort of emotion, which was totally awesome.

Then there’s Underworld: Evolution, where vampire Kate Beckinsale delvers further into the eternal war between vampires and werewolves. Shot in Mt. Seymour Provincial Park and the grounds of the Pacific National Exhibition, the movie puts an R rating on our beautiful city because of the copious amounts of leather and vampire gore shown in the film. Also, werewolves are pretty scary.

If that’s not enough, the new Twilight: New Moon movie, where vampires + romance = popular with teenage girls, recently finished some shooting in Vancouver last March. Given the city’s predilection for vampire movie shoots, it was a no-brainer for the cast and crew of the film to come here. Stanley Park was a big filming location, and it took no little means to keep those Robert Pattison-crazed girls from flipping out and screaming “marry me.”

  1. Twilight: New Moon movie

Ack great idea for an article but PLEASE ensure you have the facts. Actual filming for New Moon ended in May 2009, prior to moving to Italy for end of May. As an added bonus, the wonderful actor Rob Pattinson held his birthday dinner on May 13th at at Glowbal in Vancouver with his mom, dad, Kristen Stewart (aka Bella in Twilight) and other actors.

  2. As a Toronto transplant to Vancouver (this week!), I had a good giggle over this post. Leaving Zombie Movie Central for Vampire Movie Central is a step up, no?

  3. Vancouverites like to think you’ve made a step up bsterwart23 :-)

  4. The Twilight New Moon phenomena is unlike anything else i’ve seen for a movie made in Vancouver. The fans came from all around the world for a glance of the stars or even to tour the houses and businesses used as sets.

At MovieSet.com, we’re are editing a New Moon tour of Vancouver to satiate the rapid fans who can’t make the trek to see for themselves. Some random houses have become shrines for the pillow-biters.

And this fall, it all starts again as Pattinson, Stewart and the rest of the Werewolves and Vampires return to shoot Eclipse – part 3 in the Twilight series.

There are a few more Vampire films coming out (though not from Vancouver), “Blood: The Last Vampire” starring Gianna Jun, a Korean superstar who does her own stunts, and “Daybreakers” with Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe but the real treat is Australian newcomer (and A-grade babe) Isabel Lucas.

  5. Wonderful place of duty. Thank you on behalf of sharing!

  6. Hello, Neat post. There is a problem together with your site in internet explorer, could test this… IE still is the market chief and a large element of folks will pass over your fantastic writing due to this problem.
