Summer in Vancouver is the perfect time for a picnic, and the city is packed with fabulous, unique gourmet markets that make grabbing a pre-made meal (lunch or dinner) or your own picnic ingredients fun and easy.
South Granville has Meinhardt (grab lunch and then hit the shops and gallery row), Granville Island has its Public Market (plus loads of outdoor seating with gorgeous city-and-English Bay views), and Yaletown has Urban Fare, located right by the seawall and waterfront parks–and just a block from the boutiques on Mainland and Hamilton Streets.
Urban Fare is a market and restaurant that has breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as an enormous variety of gourmet grocery items. Foodies will love it! (It’s also perfect for people-watching and getting to know the locals: If there’s a daytime hub for the hip-and-trendy Yaletown, it’s Urban Fare.)
Remember when Urban Fare had imported French bread—flown in daily—for $100 a loaf? I always wondered who bought those….(Apparently, not enough people, since that high-end import is now extinct.)
