It may be more hippie than hipster, but I have a massive soft-spot for the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. It’s so lovable, with it’s blankets on the grass and its world music and its kids-running-around-in-face-paint. Not that it doesn’t have music-festival street cred, too: It was named one of ten best outdoor concerts in North America by USA Today.
If you think folk music sounds less-than-exciting, you’ve never been to this festival!
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival challenges audiences to expand their ideas of “folk” by featuring artists from around the world who perform in folk and roots genres as diverse as hip hop, gospel, blues, reggae, and Latin rock.
In addition to the 60+ artists and seven daytime stages, festival-goers can re-fuel at over 20 food vendors, browse arts and crafts, and take kids to the Little Folks Area (face-painting, hello!).
And if you have memories or stories about past Vancouver Folk Music Festivals, please share them!
