I’ve always loved the beluga exhibit at the Vancouver Aquarium. Whether it’s because I have fond childhood memories of the “Baby Beluga” song, or because of one memorable sleepover birthday party at the Aquarium, I always find myself stopping by to visit during every trip. With the birth of two baby belugas over the last two years, it’s even more interesting.
Stepping it up a notch, the Vancouver Aquarium is unveiling the new Canada’s Arctic exhibit – in the underwater viewing space around the belugas – to the public today. I was lucky enough to attend a special preview last night, and the new exhibit is definitely a noteworthy addition.
Multiple exhibits of different fish, as well as soft corals and other waterlife, that flourish in the Arctic are interesting, but what makes for a really engaging experience is all the extra interactive stuff throughout. My personal favourite? What’s best described as a giant iPhone – a multi-user, interactive display that visitors to the Aquarium can use to explore the Arctic environment, and learn more about whatever interests them.
After the already impressive addition of the 4D Theatre, this new exhibit continues to impress with the Vancouver’s Aquarium’s commitment to engaging and relevant educational exhibits. Plus the belugas really are that cute.
