Along with LiveCity, downtown Vancouver’s Robson Square Celebration Site—located right in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery on Robson Street—is one of the Olympic party places: Robson Square is packed with FREE daily, family-friendly entertainment throughout the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, February 12 – 28, 2010.
My partner and I went to Robson Square today to get a taste of the action before tonight’s Opening Ceremonies. There were loads of people and tons of live entertainment (plus free ice skating, too).
Getting there just after the Olympic Torch passed by—on its way to the Aboriginal Pavilion before its climactic journey to the Opening Ceremonies—we got to take a picture with one of the relay torches, watch the internationally-renowned dance troupe Le-La-La Dancers, and meet the 2010 Olympic Mascots on Ice.
The Le-La-La Dancers are just one of the performers gracing the Robson Square / GE Plaza stages throughout the Games. Other live performers include CircusWest, local dancers, choirs, musicians and more.
Check out this mini-vid of the 2010 Mascots in action:
If I wasn’t 8.5 months pregnant, I would totally do this—it’s the FREE Zip Line across Robson Square:
