Canada Day (July 1) is coming—Do you know how you’ll be celebrating the big day?

From Granville Island’s annual Truly Canadian Pancake Breakfast to Langley’s first-ever 1000-person Flash Mob Dance, Metro Vancouver’s Canada Day celebrations get bigger and better every year.

Top 5 Things to Do on Canada Day 2010

1. Canada Day at Granville Island
Granville Island is the perfect place to be on Canada Day, especially for families with little children and visitors looking for a fun, traditional and patriotic celebration. Along with the aforementioned Pancake Breakfast, there’s the 11th Annual Canada Day Parade and Official Canada Day Ceremony, plus live music courtesy of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

2. Canada Day at Canada Place
The place to party in Downtown Vancouver, Canada Place’s all-day festivities include four FREE live music stages—2010 performers include Carly Rae Jepsen, Hey Ocean, and dancers from So You Think You Can Dance Canada—as well as their annual Canada Day Parade and the exuberant Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show.

3. Surrey Canada Day
Western Canada’s largest Canada Day celebration is just south of Vancouver and completely FREE: it’s an all-day extravaganza of live music—featuring Honeymoon Suite, ODDS, Stereos, Dragonette, Jessie Farrell, Ridley Bent, Shiamak Bollywood Dance, Abba and Fleetwood Mac tribute bands, and Charlotte Diamond—and amusement park rides capped off by the Fruiticana Fireworks Spectacular.

4. Canada Day on Robson Street
Walking distance from Canada Place, this annual event transforms Downtown’s famous shopping mecca into a huge, FREE, Canada Day street party, complete with live music, prizes, face painting, “champagne showgirls,” and more.

5. 1000-Person Canada Day Flash Mob Dance
Looking for something really different to do this Canada Day? For the first time ever, 1000 locals will dance together in a Flash Mob dance like no other. Get the background on this amazing event here, and see it in person at the Langley Canada Day Celebrations.

Going to White Rock for their celebrations has become a tradition. All day parking for $5 at Semiahmoo Park, artisans on the seawall, stopping in at the shops and a stroll on the pier. Fish and chips for dinner and an after dinner swim before the fireworks begin. This festival has become my favourite Canada Day celebration.

    • Sherri, what a great tip! I love your description; I’ve never been to White Rock for Canada Day and now I totally want to go. Sounds like the perfect place to go if you want to get out of the city–Semiahmoo is gorgeous.

And finish the night off by paying homage to the Olympic cauldron!!

  3. It’s going to be great in Yaletown too!

We have the Yaletown Grand Prix beginning at 1pm and a street party on Hamilton street.

There will be live music, Best Burger Competition and lots of other things that will be fun for kids and adults.
