Hometown:
Summertown, Tennessee; Mavouradonha, Zimbabwe; Ottawa, Ontario
How long have you been a Vancouverite? 13 years
Occupation: Freelance Photographer www.angelafama.com
Favourite place in the city:
Spanish Banks and 3rd Beach in Stanley Park. I am a huge fan of having the country right in my citified back door. These beaches both offer nature without the billboards and daily barrage of advertising, and they’re also stunningly beautiful. I love that I can turn around and get right back into the city when I’m ready. Having these options so close by is a luxury.
Best way to spend a Saturday in the city:
Ha ha, get in a car and drive out-of-town! Bring a camera, good thematic tunes for whatever mood you’re in, and change for the thrift stores and dinner along the way. Make sure to turn down at least one road that you have never seen before.
Favourite Vancouver culture picks:
Shameful, too many to choose from! Right now Shiloh Lindsey, The Lymons, Grace Gallery, Char Hoyt, Presentation House Gallery, The Threekeys and Eldorado—no hidden agenda’s here!
Top insider tip for visitors:
Slickity Jim’s will be back on Main Street very, very soon but until then tortilla soup at either Bandidas Taqeria on the drive or Budgies Burritos on Kingsway. By donation Tuesdays at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Late night caesars at the Templeton Diner on their Monday movie night. Karaoke at Fantacity.

I’d like to suggest Ashley Bayles as a featured Vancouverite (ashleybayles.wordpress.com). She just sold a couple of pieces of photography in The Cheaper Show No. 9. I’ve known Ashely for years and she’s done tons of volunteering and fundraising for various causes. She also has an intense love for Spanish culture which has lead us to some really good eats in the city ;) She inspires me to be the best Vancouverite I can be.

Thanks Pascale and Lima! I appreciate your suggestions and will get in touch with them this week to see if they’re up for it.
