UPDATE: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT HAS NOW BEEN CANCELLED!! Unfortunately the City of Vancouver has put a halt on this event for the time being. You can check out the organizer’s comments on the official website. Will keep you all posted on any rescheduled dates.
No longer do we need to head to our southern neighbours for a chili cook off – we have one happening right here in East Vancouver! This Saturday, July 10th the 1st Annual East Van Chili Cook Off takes place at Trout Lake Park.
All registered cooks will prepare their best chili recipe in the category of meat, vegetarian, or exotic/gourmet (or all three if they think they’ve got what it takes) in an effort to win some amazing prizes. Chili will be served en mass to the public who can then also vote for the People’s Choice Chili category.
Official judges will be scoring the chilis over several categories including: Spiciest Chili, Best Vegetarian, Best Exotic, and more. Some of the judges for this year’s event include Chris Williams (Foodie, Artist, Critic, and also the organizer of this great event), Nick McWilliam (General Manager of Memphis Blues BBQ House) and Suzy Shameless (Rolly Derby Girl, Foodie).
Entrance fee for the public is $10 which includes all you can eat chili (well, until it runs out), bottled water, bread, snacks, and all of your eating utensils required for an afternoon of chilli tasting.
Note: The website for this event still states that entrance fee for the public is $5, however this has now changed to $10. Which is still an amazing deal for an afternoon of chili tasting!

Hi Toby – thanks for the heads up on this. Hopefully they can re-plan it in the very near future with the necessary permissions!
