This Week’s Featured Vancouverite: Isabelle Dunlop

Hometown: Fenwick, Scotland

How long have you been a Vancouverite? 17 years

Occupation:
Clothing designer/singer. I sew dresses and coats to sell at a local boutique during the day, and on most nights, I also sing in two bands!

Favourite place in the city:
Our backyard in Mount Pleasant. In the summer, we have bocce parties with homemade bread and pasta, and our hedge hosts many varieties of plants and wildlife, so I am always entertained while sitting on the back porch, no matter the weather.

Best way to spend a Saturday in the city:
A late brunch at Bert’s Restaurant on Main Street, then hop on a bike and ride down to Gastown to check out the latest fashion, and continue on around the seawall to Third Beach for a nap and a swim. Make sure to stay for the sunset on the beach, and then head for a perfect nightcap at The Cascade.

Favourite Vancouver band:
Sex with Strangers… the band! No matter what the gig or venue, I always have a good dance and a great night out with friends. Simply put, I love the music.

Top insider tip for visitors:
On a sunny day around 4pm, indulge in a guilt-free afternoon pint at Kino Café on Cambie Street. If has a perfect laid-back-I’m-on-holiday-in-Vancouver atmosphere, and the nachos are great.
