Bard on the Beach: Sneak Peak at Shakespeare’s Birthday Breakfast

Bard on the Beach's Anthony & Cleopatra from the 2010 Season

For many Vancouverites, summer just isn’t summer without at least one trip to Bard on the Beach, the Shakespeare theatre festival at Vanier Park that uses the beach, sea and mountains of English Bay as its back drop for acclaimed live productions of the Bard’s best-loved plays.

If you’re one of the many theatre-lovers that can’t wait for Bard on the Beach’s 2011 season to start—it runs from June 2 – September 24, 2011—you’re in luck: you can catch a sneak preview of the 2011 season at Bard on the Beach’s celebration of Shakespeare’s 447th birthday May 5 at the Sheraton Wall Centre in downtown Vancouver.

Bill’s Birthday Breakfast is an annual fundraiser for Bard on the Beach that includes a gourmet breakfast, insights and previews from the four directors who will stage this summer’s productions—As You Like It (David Mackay), The Merchant of Venice (Rachel Ditor), Henry VI: The Wars of the Roses (Christopher Weddell) and Richard III (Kathryn Shaw)—plus a chance to win door prizes and buy tickets to cultural events, restaurants, weekend getaways and more. All proceeds from the Breakfast benefit Bard Education programs.

Tickets to Bard on the Beach’s 2011 Bill’s Birthday Breakfast are $40 per person; the Breakfast takes place 7:30am – 9am on May 5, 2011.
