Feastro the Rolling Bistro: Food Cart Fame

Feastro the Rolling Bistro - Food Network FameIf you don’t already know about Feastro – The Rolling Bistro, one of the new food carts opening up this week at the corner of W.Cordova and Thurlow, you will soon.

Feastro – or ‘the Purple Truck’ as they are affectionately known – was recently featured on the Food Network’s ‘Eat St.’ series and the fame (and hopefully the fortunes) are steadily growing on a daily basis. The Convention Centre has been fielding calls ever since the episode first aired April 27th, and this food cart has relocated from Davis Bay on the laid-back Sunshine Coast to one of the hottest locations in the city: across and down the block from the Convention Centre and Pan Pacific Hotel, close to the cruise ship terminal, and right near the iconic Olympic Torch.

This innovative food truck features the 5-star work of Vancouver chef Steve Myddleton, who previously worked as executive sous chef for The Salmon House on the Hill in Burnaby, and was also the chef/co-owner of the award-winning bistro in North Vancouver, The Village Bistro.

Foodies will be blown out of their socks with what comes out of this venerable food truck (the current owners purchased it from Sobe in Tofino). It’s not your average fish and chips! Salmon goujon, yam fries with chipotle aoli, salmon/snapper/halibut tacos, tuna carpaccio salad (my favorite)… even truck-smoked salmon, pulled pork, souvlaki chicken and homemade fruit lemonades.

Feastro co-owner and manager Paul Fenton brings his tourism, sales and adventuring experience to the purple truck. It’s Paul’s job to manage the logistics, including the stocking of Sunshine Coast-based seafood and organic greens.

Feastro has been passionately patronized by residents and visitors of the Sunshine Coast for two years now. Due to bylaw issues they were unable to secure the pad space at their traditional location of gorgeous Davis Bay. Hopefully they’ll be able to get a second truck or venue, but for now, the Sunshine Coast’s loss is Vancouver’s gain.

Just as people traveled from near and far to eat on the beach at Davis Bay, Feastro’s Facebook page is a testament to loyal fans trekking in from the suburbs or points east to nosh on some of North America’s best truck food.

Interesting, but what’s the damage? At a squint on the board in the picture, it looks like $12?

  2. Hi, Tao. You can see the full menu at Feastro’s web site: http://www.feastro.ca. The picture is to show the location and truck branding so visitors can find it, and to include the Olympic Torch, which is an iconic destination for many Vancouverites and visitors to the city. The food is very affordable and of extremely high quality, with all Sunshine Coast grown organic veggies. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Let us know what you think of it!

salmon house on the hill is in west vancouver.

  4. Tao: I’ve been working my way through the $7 taco menu at the top. So far I’ve tried the chicken, halibut and salmon tacos. They are delicious, and filling too.

Feastro is a great addition to Vancouver’s street food scene. I couldn’t agree more that “the Sunshine Coast’s loss is Vancouver’s gain”. :)
