Father’s Day: 10 Things to Do on Father’s Day in Vancouver

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19, and whether he wants to spend it with family, kids, friends, or doing something a little bit zany (like, say, visiting a Viking Village), Vancouver is packed with things to do to celebrate Dad.

10 ‘Uniquely Vancouver’ Things to Do on Father’s Day, June 19, 2011

1. Party at free Car-Free Festival on Commercial Drive, in the West End, on Main Street, or around Kitsilano.

2. Visit the Viking Village at the free Scandinavian Midsummer Festival in Burnaby, and make Dad compete in the “Wife Carrying Contest”: he crosses the finish line first and he wins his “wife’s” body-weight in Carlsberg beer!

3. Kayak Deep Cove during the day then enjoy free multicultural performances—including Korean Drums, Spanish flamenco and Egyptian Dancers—at the North Shore FolkFest that night.

4. Dad loves fishing? Grab a party of four and take advantage of STS Guiding Services’ Father’s Day special rates: $550 for four anglers/6 hours of fishing for Fraser Sturgeon or $650 for four anglers/6 hours of fishing for Vancouver Salmon.

5. Or, fish for free with the kids at Rice Lake’s Family Fishing Day, part of BC’s Family Fishing Weekend, which features free fishing at many spots around BC.

6. Have a picnic on the beach. Grab a to-go box of Refuel’s awesome, gourmet fried chicken and head to Kits Beach, or host the whole family for an outdoor BBQ at Spanish Banks.

7. Pan for real gold—and keep the gold—at Father’s Day at the Britannia Mine Museum with Yukon Dan.

8. Does Dad love cars? Greater Vancouver has three car shows happening June 19: BC Oldsmobile Car Show and the Italian & French Car & Motorcycle Display, both at North Vancouver’s Waterfront Park, and the Dundarave Porshe Show & Ride at West Vancouver’s Dundarave Village.

9. Take Dad for a brunch. Lavish holiday brunches aren’t just for Mother’s Day; dads love omelet stations, too!

10. Take him out for a beer! (Sheesh, how many times does he have to ask?)
