Like to write? A travel writing workshop all about Vancouver

fall in Vancouver

Attention all you aspiring travel writers out there.   I know who you are.  You carry a little notebook with you on trips to jot down your brilliant thoughts.  You have a lifetime subscription to Travel + Leisure.  You write long, beautiful comments on this very blog.

There’s a workshop for you (and I happen to be teaching it).  Langara College is offering a continuing studies course this fall called Vancouver for Writers (TRAV 1011).  It’s a travel writing workshop all about Vancouver that combines a little bit of time in the classroom and a lot of time exploring the city we live in.

This course is meant for anyone who has a passion for Vancouver and a passion for writing.  No experience required.  We’ll go over the basics of writing a thrilling travel story and also get down to the nitty-gritty about how to publish and – just maybe – get paid for your fine work.

And maybe the best part: Budding writers will have the chance to be published right on this blog.

vancouver in the fog

I’ll be your guide on this travel writing adventure.  I’m an adopted Vancouverite, but I know the city well.  When I’m not writing for Inside Vancouver, I also write for newspapers and magazines in Vancouver and around the world (Check out my site for a little bio and background).  I promise you’ll have fun, learn something new about Vancouver and learn how to turn your ideas into great travel lit.

The course runs on Saturdays, from 11am-2pm, from Sept. 17-Nov. 12.  Classes are held at Langara College, and we take regular field trips to unique places around the city, including Chinatown, Richmond and Granville Island.  We’re trying to keep classes small and intimate, so there are limited spots.  For all the details, check out this page.  Or you can register at Langara College by calling 604-323-5322.

Sound interesting?  Curious?  I’m happy to answer questions.  Just fire away below.

Hello there! A good friend of mine just linked me up to this page and I gotta say, my friend must know me pretty well. Everything you said here (not to mention your experience in my aspiring-to-be career) appeals to me in all shapes and forms, but mainly at this moment through a computer screen. Because I CAN, I’d thought I’d send a virtual ‘thank you’ into the netherworld of the internet and will hopefully see you, because what you’re providing is exactly what I seek. Cheers!
