Just as our summer weather is continuing past Labour Day (thankfully), so are a handful of Vancouver’s best summer events and activities. If you haven’t been to Bard on the Beach or the Summer Night Market in Richmond yet, you still have time to catch these summer favourites before they end for another year.

5 Vancouver Summer Events Still Going in September

1. Bard on the Beach
One of the Vancouver’s most famous summer traditions, the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival—which stages its plays against the gorgeous backdrop of English Bay–continues through September 24, 2011.

2. Vancouver Chinatown Night Market
Smaller than the ultra-popular Summer Night Market in Richmond, Vancouver’s Chinatown Night Market is nonetheless vibrant and full of charm. There’s one more weekend to catch this summer favourite: it ends September 11, 2011.

3. Summer Night Market in Richmond
Summer can’t end without one (more) trip to Lower Mainland’s biggest, Asian-style night market: 300+ vendors, Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, and Korean delicacies, entertainment, and a Season Finale celebration for the market’s last nights September 16 – 18, 2011.

4. Zimsculpt at VanDusen Botanical Garden
Back for its third and final year at the idyllic VanDusen Botanical Garden, Zimsculpt is the exhibition and sale of Zimbabwean shona (stone) sculpture. The larger sculptures are artfully placed around the Garden, enhancing the beauty of both the artworks and the landscapes. Go while it’s still sunny; the show ends September 25, 2011.

5. The Colour of My Dreams: The Surrealist Revolution in Art at Vancouver Art Gallery
OK, technically the VAG’s Surrealist art exhibition isn’t a “summer” event, but I had to include it here because it too ends in September and if you haven’t had a chance to see it, you really should. The Colour of My Dreams is the most comprehensive exhibition of Surrealist art ever to be shown in Canada; it features 350 works by leading Surrealist artists, including André Breton, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, René Magritte, Edith Rimmington, and Man Ray. The exhibition ends September 25, 2011.
