Vancouver is only a month away from hosting the 2011 Grey Cup. The CFL championship game, which is on Sunday, Nov. 27, at the revamped BC Place stadium, is expected at attract up to 400,000 people to the city for a weekend of football and festivities.
Now, if you’re hoping to see the game in person, I’ve got some bad news. The 52,511 tickets to the game, priced from $156-$436, have sold out. But the good news is that there are several free and ticketed events planned for the remainder of the weekend. In fact, you might even get 2010 Olympic flashbacks.
Here’s a glimpse at what’s in store:
Telus StreetFest: Free concerts and other festival fun will be staged at the corner of Beatty and Robson Streets from Friday, Nov. 25, to Sunday, Nov. 27, starting at noon. Among the local acts appearing on the main stage are Said the Whale, Hey Ocean and Bend Sinister. For a complete line-up, click here.
Calgary Stampede Pancake Breakfast: A Calgary tradition comes to Vancouver. This completely free breakfast will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, at the corner of Beatty and Robson Streets.
Molson Canadian House: The Vancouver Convention Centre will be transformed into a 90,000-square-foot beer garden for the Grey Cup. This is a ticketed event, with three-day passes currently on sale for $99. Inside, there will be continuous live entertainment, including Barney Bentall and the Tennessee 3, Johnny Cash’s original band.
Vanier Cup: On Friday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m., in a lead-up to the big game, BC Place will host the Vanier Cup, the Canadian college championship game. If you’re interested, tickets are still available.
Grey Cup Festival Parade: Up to 125,000 fans are expected to turn out for the parade, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26, and will be led by Glee star and local boy Cory Monteith.
99th Grey Cup Championship: Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. at BC Place. If you weren’t lucky enough to score a ticket, keep in mind that hundreds will be given away at the above-mentioned Telus StreetFest.

Can anyone say 100% if the roof is open for the game or not? BC Place says it’s open, but when I said “for sure” they said “no.” It was supposed to be open for the West Final and was not, despite great weather.

Good question – My guess is it’s a game-day call. If this week’s weather is any indication, there’s probably a good chance the roof will be closed.
