Gear up for the Vancouver Motorcycle Show January 19-22

Calling all motorcycle buffs: Vancouver Motorcycle Show comes to Abbotsford’s Tradex Exhibition Centre January 19-22 with a packed schedule of stunts, races and vintage bike exhibits.

If you’re looking to gear up for spring and summer touring, Vancouver Motorcycle Show also showcases the latest releases from manufacturers including Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, BMW Motorcycles, Yamaha, Ducati, Victory and more.

Although films and shows like The Wild One with Brando and recent Fox hit Sons of Anarchy tout brooding biker subculture, Vancouver has a historically strong and welcoming mainstream motorcycle enthusiast scene. The Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Club, for example, celebrated its 90th anniversary this year.

Vintage Rider Night, January 19

Vintage Rider Night is an nod to the golden days of motorcycle racing that took place in the 1950s and 1960s Europe, particularly the UK, when rebellious youth raced from cafe to cafe along London’s transport routes with bikes modified for max speeds.

Vintage Rider Night kicks off with Café Racers’ Cup featuring riders on vintage bikes. After the show, belly up to the bar in the Iron Horse Lounge for a free beer sample and tales of British bike racing from the British Motorcycle Owners Club.

West Coast Freestyle Stunt Show, January 19-22

Watch these fearless local guys plus American star “Hollywood B” perform extreme stunt combos that justify every finger-wagging parent who advises their child to steer clear of two-wheeled, motorized vehicles.

I don’t know what these stunt terms mean exactly, but don’t they sound cool: no-handed sit down wheelie, high chair circles, crippler, tech tank, chainsaw, tire-blowing mega burnouts. When stunt men bite it, they get “road rash.”

She Rides Nite, January 21

Come out and meet other women who ride and work in the industry at this celebration of female bikers. In addition to tips on touring and clubs, She Rides also offers clinics on safety and gear.

Custom Alley, January 19-22

Get inspired by custom bikes by the top shops in BC. From Easy Rider-style beauties to snappy sport bikes and chrome-tastic cruisers.
