February 2012 is shaping up to be a month packed with things to do in Vancouver: This weekend is the inaugural City and Slope Festival (which includes Illuminate Yaletown), next week there are 10 Things to Do on Valentine’s Day, and at the end of February there’s the 7th annual Winterruption Festival on Granville Island.
Winterruption 2012 is a three-day festival loaded with all-ages fun. Celebrating both local and international artists of all disciplines, the festival has kids’ theatre and activities, art exhibitions from Granville Island’s many residents artists and artisans, live music presented by the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, and foodie events from Edible Canada. Basically, if you love food, theatre, music, and arts, they’ve got you covered.
Highlights of Winterruption 2012 include:
Kids’ Theatre, featuring Carousel Theatre’s Aesop’s Fables, a Kids Zone where Vancouver International Children’s Festival presents the rhythmic soul of Kutapira, and the internationally-renowned Indigenous company, Red Sky, performing The Great Mountain.
Granville Island Arts, with exhibitions and open studios throughout Granville Island, including ReVision at the Creekhouse, an exhibition of recycled, salvaged, or found materials transformed into amazing art, Woodenough, a wood exhibition at Dalbergia Wood + Fine Objects Studio in Railspur Alley, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Emily Carr University of Art and Design and their Drop-In Life Drawing workshop.
Live Music presented by Coastal Jazz and Blues Society at Performance Works, with performances from Michael Bernard Fitzgerald with special guests Acres of Lions, Aidan Knight with special guests The Belle Game, Celso Machado, and Aeroplane Trio.
Foodie events presented by Edible Canada, including a Guided Culinary Market Tour ($30 per person), a Canadian Beer/Wine Tasting ($15 per person), and a three-course, Market-inspired dinner at the Edible Canada Bistro (just $30 per person!).
