Each summer, Vancouver hosts the biggest Pride parade in Western Canada: Hundreds of colorful floats and more than a half-million spectators jam downtown streets to cap off a weekend of street parties, beer gardens and summer fun.
Details are already being released, and this year’s festival is shaping up to be one of the most exciting ever. The 34th installment of the summer classic features a full line-up of Pride-themed events, culminating in the parade Aug. 5. Here’s a preview of what’s in store for you early planners out there:
- Pride Movie Night, Wednesday, Aug. 1: Start your Pride party early at the annual movie night, held at downtown’s Granville 7 Theatre. Queer cinema and special guests make for a memorable screening.
- Dance Party on Davie Street, Friday, Aug. 3: The epicenter of Vancouver’s gay community turns into an outdoor street party for one electric night. Davie Street is closed to traffic and filled with concert stages, beer gardens and performers.
- Pride Festival, Sunday, Aug. 5: Beautiful Sunset Beach is the scene for this all-day party featuring live music, a marketplace of fabulous merchandise and a beer garden. Join 125,000 new friends under the Vancouver sun.
- Pride Parade, Sunday, Aug. 5: The big parade, which drew 600,000 spectators last year, winds its way through Vancouver’s West End and the heart of the city’s gay community. Expect some very original marching bands, cheering crowds and one unforgettable show.
