Built in 1927 and designated a National Heritage Site, Vancouver’s historic Orpheum Theatre is one of the city’s great landmarks. Home to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Bach Choir, and Vancouver Chamber Choir, the Orpheum is also one of North America’s finest concert halls. And this summer you can peak “behind the curtain” with insider Orpheum Tours 2012 in July and August.
Conducted by the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame and timed to celebrate the Orpheum’s 85th anniversary (!), the Orpheum Tours are a chance for the public to explore the theatre from top to bottom (literally) and learn more about its storied history.
Orpheum Tours 2012 take place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in July and August.
Orpheum Tours 2012 Schedule (all tours begin at 11am):
- Tuesdays, July 17, 24, 31, and August 7, 14, 21, 28
- Thursdays, July 19, 26, and August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
- Saturdays, July 21, 28, and August 4, 11, 18, 25
Attending an Orpheum Tour is easy: There are no advance reservations required and entrance fees are a requested $10 donation per person.
To take the Orpheum tour, just show up at the theatre’s Smithe Street Entrance at 11am on the day of the tour. The tours take about two hours, and include an exploration of the theatre’s hidden spaces and backstage, plus everything from the basement to the dome. (Due to a lot of stair climbing, the tour isn’t appropriate for kids under 12 or people with mobility issues.)
