Free outdoor movies are a Vancouver summer staple and as August nears the halfway point, chances are running out. Yaletown Free Outdoor Movie Night is one of three remaining opportunities to spread a blanket and partake of lazy summer bliss. We’ve blogged about free outdoor movies every Tuesday in Stanley Park. There are two remaining showtimes in the Stanley Park series: August 21 (Labyrinth) and August 28 (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off). Get more details on free movies in Stanley Park here.
Yaletown Free Outdoor Movie Night officially starts at sunset (around 8pm). It’s better to arrive early to get good real estate, otherwise, to the disappointment of both you and Patrick Swayze, baby will end up sitting in a faraway a corner.
This year, you can make a day of it and attend the Yaletown Roundhouse Community Center picnic before the film at 4pm.
Dance fiends should also head over early. Yaletown’s Exhale Studio will guide beginners through a free Dirty Dancing dance lesson in David Lam Park (Drake & Pacific Blvd.) from 7 to 8pm. This is your chance to pick up Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s killer courting moves from 2011 comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love.
The Yaletown BIA is holding a photo contest for the best photo smartphone photo recreating your favourite moment from Dirty Dancing. The top photo will be awarded a $100 gift card to Yaletown Brewing Company. Runner up wins a $50 gift card to Hapa Izakaya. Details on how to enter here.
