Anyone who’s spent hours getting lost on the popular online craft market Etsy knows that there’s a lot of talented and creative people out there – many of whom live in Vancouver. Well, there’s now an opportunity to go behind the velvet curtain of mystery that we call the Internet and meet the folks behind the crafts.
On Friday, September 7, Blim will host the Vancouver edition of the annual Etsy Craft Party, an international celebration of craft and community that takes place in many cities around the world. It’s a chance for “Etsycians” – Etsy store owners, lovers of Etsy and anyone else who’s interested in crafts and art – to get together and undoubtedly make beautiful things.
Melody Ma, one of the event’s organizers, says it’s a perfect way to bring together like-minded folk who might not have the chance to meet otherwise.
“It’s a great opportunity to take Etsy the online marketplace back to its roots of creativity and actually making the arts,” she says.
The theme of the evening is “Wish You Were Here” and it’s meant to reflect everything that represents Vancouver. So, that should be easy enough.
The evening’s agenda is basically a Kindergarten class itinerary on steroids. For $15 (that’s the early bird price), you’ll have access to a letter pressing workshop with local illustrator Sam Bradd, button making, collaborative canvas painting, glass jar decorating, journal decorating, and postcard making. There will also be goodie bags and access to the unofficial after-party next door at Fortune Sound Club.
All you have to bring are some ideas – and be sure to leave your creative inhibitions behind.
