Fish + date night in Vancouver usually = sushi. Not this time. The adults-only After Hours at Vancouver Aquarium, 6-10pm, Sept. 20, is an altogether new way to combine the two for a little late night magic. Tickets ($21 for general admission; $13.25 for members) are still available. Date night essentials – food, wine and beer – will be available for purchase.
4D encompasses sight, sound, smell and touch. Expect to empathize, flop and gasp with B.C.’s Pacific salmon population in their epic battle upstream – overcoming rapids, waterfalls, and hungry predators including Grizzly bears, salmon sharks, bald eagles and more. If you want to ride the roller coaster again, there will be multiple screenings throughout the evening.
Or just pop over to “Salmon CSI,” an interactive salmon dissection that examines the inner workings of a salmon and highlights the challenges they face to survive.
I’m predictably drawn to the acrobatics show by Vancouver Aquarium’s fun-loving Pacific white-sided dolphins. If you’ve seen them in action, you’ll understand. If you haven’t, After Hours offers a great way to catch their grinning antics without the usual crowds.
After Hours also features learning-by-touch at the Wet Lab, where you can meet and (gently) feel invertebrates like sea stars and urchin.
Tickets for After Hours (19+) at Vancouver Aquarium usually sell out in advance and are not available at the door. So if you’re locking down Thursday plans, act fast.
