3. First Night Whistler
Admittedly, this is a couple hours up the (scenic) road. Perhaps the most impressive family New Year’s Eve celebration, First Night Whistler is well worth the trip. Advance tickets (before December 31) are $15 adults, $10 children 12 and under. Prices on December 31 are $20 for individual tickets, $10 children 12 and under. Children 2 and under are free.

4. Bright Nights Stanley Park Christmas Train
Vancouver’s best holiday tradition for the littlest celebrants is open n New Year’s Eve. Hop aboard and enjoy a Polar Express style magic: a forest of two million twinkling lights and live performers from the North Pole. Enhance the experience with carols, cocoa, and popcorn. Find ticket details here.

5. Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden
Vancouver might be short on New Year’s Eve fireworks displays (we save that jazz for summer) but VanDusen’s overwhelming array of Christmas lights, including the Dancing Lights on Livingstone Lake is a fabulous stand-in for pyrotechnics. New Year’s Eve is your family’s last chance to see the botanical garden in all its holiday splendor, from 4:30 to 9pm. Find ticket details here.
