5 Cool Things To Do Over the Long Weekend

Vancouver is a happening place to be over the upcoming Easter Long Weekend, March 29-April 1. From outdoor fun to interesting art and irresistible eats, here’s a shortlist of cool things to do around town:

5 Cool Things To Do In Vancouver Over the Long Weekend

1) Baker’s Market: Saturday, March 30
Baker’s Market kicks off the spring 2013 season this Saturday with a market at Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre (7646 Prince Albert Street). Enhance your weekend dining with any baked good you can imagine – from bread and sweet seasonal treats – like hot cross buns – to macarons, cupcakes, cookies, tarts and scones. Entry is free.

2) New Works Exhibition at Emily Carr: through April 6
Find the next big thing at a fresh art exhibition by Emily Carr’s MAA students. The works centre on the theme,“Ekphrasis,” and seek to show the challenges artists and designers face in communicating (speaking out) using unconventional mediums. Find them at the Concourse Gallery on Granville Island. Entry is free.

3) Easter Brunch: Sunday, March 31
Too old for egg hunting? Try egg eating. Vancouver brunch destinations step up their game for the holiday weekend. Yew Restaurant + Bar has an impressive selection on their 3-course Easter Brunch Menu. But hold out for the grand finale: an “Unlimited Chocolate Experience Buffet.” Hawksworth is adding hot cross buns to their usual sophisticated offerings, such as lemon ricotta pancakes and Pacific sablefish benedict. Café Pacifica is known for their waterfront view as well as their lavish Easter feast. Details here.

4) Stanley Park Exploration Walk Birds of a Feather: Sunday, March 31
Join the Stanley Park Ecology Society on two-hour, easy walking exploration in search of Stanley Park’s birds. Check out the great blue heron colony and all the other species enjoying the sunshine. It’s also a prime opp to snap a photo to enter in their SPES photo contest, April 6-14. Entry is by donation. Find out how to preregister here.

5) Bike the Cherry Blossoms: Ongoing
Vancouver has 40,000 cherry tress spread throughout the city. How do you find the pretty pink pockets as they spring into bloom? Use the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s Google map showing what’s blooming now, hop on your bike, and get rolling. Best of all? It’s free.

I visited Baker´s Market and it was definitely worth it, I loved the place! The next event I definitely want to try out is the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival I just found on this list of top 10 Vancouver festivals. Seems like everybody can find their cup of coffee while staying in Vancouver!
