Since the dawn of time, man has dreamed of flight. This spring in Vancouver, you can soar without ever leaving your seat.
After nearly a year of construction, a one-of-a-kind virtual flight experience is set to open on the Vancouver waterfront. FlyOver Canada takes guests on a flightseeing odyssey across the country, swooping by everything from the British Columbia mountains to Niagara Falls. And it gives a whole new meaning to flight simulation.
Up to 60 riders at a time are strapped in and hoisted in front of a massive spherical screen. After take off, they move in concert with an ultra high-definition film showing bird’s-eye views of Canada’s most stunning vistas. Meanwhile, riders are exposed to winds, mist and scents to simulate the experience of flying through the air.
The attraction incorporates breakthrough filmmaking technology. Scenes were recorded using helicopter- and plane-mounted 65mm camera systems, allowing for incredible depth of detail. Filmmakers spent years gathering aerial footage of enormous Atlantic icebergs, glacier-topped mountains, the prairies and pastures of Canada’s heartland, soaring urban skylines, remote forests and more.
