If you never got a chance to see Michael, this may be the next best thing.
The last time the Jacksons graced a Vancouver stage was in 1984, when they still had their charismatic little brother Michael in tow. Their catalog of hits includes hummable classics like ABC, I Want You Back and I’ll Be There.
The best part: The Jacksons show – like all the performances at the PNE – is free with the cost of admission (reduced to $16 this year).
The Jacksons share the spotlight with a $3 million lineup of big-name acts, many of which are well past their prime but still bound to draw crowds. Rock goddess Melissa Etheridge will be featured alongside California legends The Beach Boys, ’80s English rockers Foreigner and ’70s sensation REO Speedwagon.
Other performers include country stars Dean Brody and Martina McBride, as well as folk rockers Great Big Sea and the Proclaimers and Canadian bluesman Colin James (full lineup below).
To accommodate the expected crowds, the PNE is moving the nightly shows to the WestJet Concert Stage, on the former site of the Motorsports track, according to the Vancouver Sun’s John Mackie. The new venue has 4,500 bleacher seats (plus 700 reservable seats in front of the stage at $15-$20 each).
Aside from the music, another attraction is sure to get lots of attention at this year’s PNE – Genghis Khan: The Exhibition. Inside Rollerland, visitors can check out authentic artifacts and weapons from the era of Khan, the infamous Mongol emperor who terrorized Eurasia with his bloody conquests during the 13th century.
