As if the Vancouver Food Cart Festival couldn’t get any more cool, they’ve gone and added a flea market to it.
If you haven’t already checked out the Food Cart Fest since its launch last year at the Waldorf Hotel, it’s time. In its new, more easily accessible location, the festival has turned into one of Vancouver’s most popular weekly events, hosting over 25 food trucks and thousands of weekly visitors.
Starting this weekend, the festival will be expanding and teaming up with The Eastside Flea to bring you a side of shopping with your deluxe grilled cheese.
The Eastside Flea is a monthly community market that is normally held at The Wise Hall near Commercial Drive. If you’re searching for something special and unique, (a handmade neck warmer, perhaps?) The Eastside Flea has got you covered.
Modelling itself after popular Brooklyn Flea Markets, the Eastside Flea features a diverse array of vendors that hawk handmade goods, vintage clothing, collectibles, cameras, antiques, knick-knacks, terrariums, vegan goods, crystals, kitchen ware, and many other “oh-my-god will you look at this!!” treasures.
The sense of community and pride you can get from bargaining with a vendor over a cool pair of vintage roller skates is something you just can’t get from the mall.
To take advantage of the sunny weather, The Eastside Flea will be launching at the Food Cart Fest this Sunday, July 7th with over 30 tables of items to browse. If you are interested in setting up your own table and selling some stuff this summer, you can send an email to the organizers.
If you’d rather just combine your two loves of eating food & buying stuff, check out The Vancouver Cart Fest and The Eastside (Outdoor) Flea Market every Sunday from 12 to 5 pm until September 22nd at 215 west 1st avenue between Olympic Village and the Cambie Bridge. Admission to the festival is $2 and children 13 and under enter for free.
