Formed by two friends who met in university out East, Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers officially opens its doors this Friday, July 19.
Located on the North Shore, the new brewery is starting off with three signature beverages: Loud Mouth Pale Ale, Wise Crack West Coast Lager and Quick Wit Belgian-style Wheat Ale. Visitors to Vancouver Craft Beer Week in May/June of this year had a sneak peak of the brews, but this weekend’s opening marks the first time the general public will be able to get its hands on these new beers.
Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers is the dream of Deep Cove-raised Shae De Jaray and Torontonian Shawn Bethune, two engineers turned brewers. The two have designed their own 8,000-hectolitre brewery and distillery, which includes a 10-person tasting lounge. De Jaray and Bethune plan also on distilling small batches of spirits using local ingredients, a trend that will hopefully take off in Vancouver (see: Long Table Distillery).
To mark their opening, Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers launches with a day of live entertainment, tastings and tours on Friday July 19 from 11:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. Besides offering samples of their frontline of beers, Deep Cove will tap their first seasonal, the Green Rooibos Tea Saison.
Craft beer fans will also be able to meet the brewers. Growlers will be available in the tasting room for purchase and fills. Plus, the first 25 people to come and visit Deep Cove on the day will be given a free growler.
