The world’s most charming jazz crooner/pianist/actor is coming to Vancouver.

Harry Connick, Jr. brings his impressive musical talents to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Aug. 11.  For details on how to win a pair of free tickets, read on.

The multi-talented Connick is perhaps best known as a musician.  Much like Michael Buble (albeit 20 years earlier), Connick built a reputation around updating jazz standards and delivering them in his trademark smooth-as-silk voice.  He has sold 25 million albums worldwide, earning three Grammy awards for his efforts.

A child prodigy, Connick was performing on piano with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra at age 9.  His career took off back in 1989, when he composed the soundtrack for the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally . . ., which featured his takes on classics like It Had to be You and Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.

While building a reputation as a jazz master, Connick was also honing his acting credentials.  His debut was as a World War II tail gunner in the 1990 film Memphis Belle. Since then, he has played such diverse roles as a serial killer in 1995’s Copycat, a jet fighter pilot in the 1996 hit Independence Day and the romantic lead in 2007’s P.S. I Love You.

Meanwhile, forays into TV have earned Connick a pair of Emmy Awards.  He played a supporting role on the sitcom Will & Grace and, more recently, shared the spotlight on several episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Connick’s current tour sees him supporting his 2013 album Every Man Should Know.  His first full set of original songs since 1997, the album is, in Connick’s words, “a musical trip down a winding back road of my desire.”  The 12 tracks on the record explore everything from straight-ahead jazz to funk, bossa nova and zydeco, the traditional music of his native New Orleans.

Connick rolls into Vancouver on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 7:30 p.m. for a one-night stand at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.  Tickets are available on the Ticketmaster website.
