This Saturday, join yogis, beginners, and enthusiasts alike at the Art of Living Foundation‘s Yogathon. The Yogathon is a nation-wide event that will bring yogis together to complete a 108 sun salutation challenge. Sun salutations are a sequence of twelve fluid yoga postures that help build strength and flexibility while providing a full body workout. The philosophy behind sun salutations is to honour and celebrate the sun while bringing its power into your heart.

The Art of Living Foundation is a not-for-profit educational and humanitarian organization. They are a NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) focused on stress management, often incorporating yoga into their programs. Their goal for the Yogathon is to spread a message of peace while supporting a good cause. Proceeds from the Yogathon will go towards Care for Children, a charity and Art of Living program that works towards providing education for children in underdeveloped countries.

Canadian cities participating in the 2013 Yogathon include Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, London, Ottawa, Pembroke, Quebec City, Windsor, Phoenix and St. Mathieu du Parc. Vancouver’s Yogathon will take place this Saturday, August 17th, 2013, beginning at 9:30am at Jonathan Rogers Park. Registration is still open and costs $25. Anyone can participate, from beginners to masters. To take part, register here.
