A rusty old tire… A shopping cart… Endless amounts of plastic bags… Doesn’t exactly sound like treasure, does it? To the participants involved in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, trash turns into treasure as they spend their day searching for the debris that spoil beautiful Vancouver beaches.
The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup takes place from September 21st until 29th in Vancouver and gathers thousands of participants to take action against litter and debris on local beaches. Led by the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, the cleanup focuses on educating and empowering people to make a difference through community events and cleaning up.
If you’re interested in helping trim down the trash and beautify the Vancouver oceanfront, you can volunteer to participate at various cleanup locations taking place around town from September 21st to the 29th. You can view a map of cleanup locations here.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, whether you have participated in the cleanup before, or you’ve just always appreciated a clean beach, help celebrate the occasion in Metro Vancouver at Iona Beach on September 21st at 10am. Free lunch will be provided, and everyone is welcome to join in with the cleanup crew!
So if you’re looking for something free to do in Vancouver this September, check out one of the many cleanup locations around town and help keep Vancouver beaches beautiful!
