They’re not here until March of 2014, but it’s not too early to get excited for the return of those cosmic clowns of colour – the Blue Man Group!

The group, which started Off-Broadway in New York and has become an entertainment powerhouse, with a Las Vegas show and a touring company, will perform at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre (649 Cambie St.) in Vancouver March 25 – 30 2014.

The tour promises new material and “classic moments” from previous Blue Man Group shows. New sound, set, and video design centres around a proscenium-sized LED curtain and high-resolution screen for a high-impact visual experience that will excite long-time fans and wow those who many know the performers from the sitcom Arrested Development, and the episodes in which the David Cross character, wanting to become a Blue Man, painted himself blue for a couple of episodes.

Be that as it may, the Blue Man Group features three bald and blue characters who put on multi-media performances that is funny, thought-provoking and visually stimulating, especially if you like bald blue guys. A live band, whose tribal rhythms help drive the show to its climax, accompanies the Blue Men.

In a press release, BMG co-founder Philip Stanton (whom, we’re guessing, doesn’t have to wear the Blue Man getup to shareholder meetings), states that, for this tour, he and his crew “needed to find a way to transform theatres of all shapes and sizes into spaces in which the Blue Man can intimately connect with the audience, where the audience can become engaged with the spirit of the show and the Blue Man himself. We think we have finally figured it out, and hopefully we will accomplish our goal, which is always to help audience members reconnect with their own sense of wonder and discovery, with their own sense of what is possible in their lives.”

There you have it – self-empowerment, Blue Man Group style!

Performances run Tuesday, March 25 to Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m., Sunday evening at 7:30 with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. The show runs 1 hour and 30 minutes with no intermission.
