And now for some silly, holiday fun.
To help fans get in the Christmas spirit, the Vancouver Canucks have launched a special website featuring some of the goofiest photos of Luongo, Bieksa, Burrows, Kesler and the Sedin twins you’ve ever seen. The best part: You can create and send personalized cards of your own featuring the players.
The team got out their ugliest Christmas sweaters for the special photo shoot. The result is a truly awful series of holiday cards, showing the Canucks stars hamming it up for the camera in festive poses. In one memorable shot, goalie Roberto Luongo – dressed in a v-neck, button-down sweater – puts his arm in a fatherly pose around right winger Alex Burrows, who smiles like a schoolboy on Christmas morning.
There’s also a three-minute-long holiday greeting from the Canucks stars, which is a bit painful to watch but fun nonetheless. In it, we learn that Luongo’s favourite Christmas present was, in fact, an Edmonton Oilers jersey he received as a child. Kesler confesses that the weirdest gift his kids ever asked for was a hamster. And both of the Sedin twins claim their favourite holiday food is ham.
But easily the highlight of the site is the free holiday card maker. Choose from four different portraits of your favourite players. There’s Daniel and Henrik looking wistfully into the camera in holiday finery, Kesler posing stiffly in a god-awful red sweater with snowmen on it, and several other gems. Then, you can decorate the players with beards, skates, holiday ornaments, elf hats and more. Finally, add a personalized message and you’ve got the best free Christmas card money can buy, shareable by email or on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks.
