New Year’s Eve is traditionally a bounty for DJs, with most clubs offering multiple record spinners for your dancing and drinking pleasure. However, some of us still like to go out and see live music, even while ringing in the New Year. With that in mind, we dug up some choices for Dec. 31 in Vancouver, ranging from ’80s to faux-’80s to ’90s bands and even some more contemporary acts.
Steel Panther at the Commodore Ballroom (868 Granville St.) – Break out the hairspray and leopard-print, the bad boys of faux hair-metal are back. Vancouver audiences love these guys, and this is their umpteenth appearance in the city (they’re also playing a Dec. 30 show at the same venue). Tickets for Dec. 31 range from $59.50 to $150 for VIP tickets, which include priority entrance and exclusive access to VIP area, a fully catered “Steel Panther-inspired” food menu, specialty themed beverages, bubbly at midnight and party favours. Tickets at ticketmaster.ca.
Party 2014 with the Go-Go’s – The original lineup of ’80s girl group the Go-Go’s ring in the New Year at the River Rock Casino (8811 River Road, Richmond). Fall “Head Over Heels” (sorry, couldn’t help it) all over again with the band that gave us “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “We Got the Beat,” “Vacation” and some classic deep cuts as well. Doors: 7:30 p.m. (with buffet), show: 11. Show only: doors 10 p.m. Tickets (with buffet): $189.50 or $339 for a couple; $109.50 (without buffet) for balcony seating with party favours and midnight toast. Tickets at ticketmaster.ca.
