Holiday Shopping in Vancouver: Robson

The holidays are upon us and while deals across the border might seem tempting, merchants around the city are stepping up their game to offer discounts, packages, and unique retail experiences for shoppers. To promote local spending, I’ve talked to several local business improvement associations about what makes their neighbourhood shine for shoppers. This week’s feature for last-minute shopping is Robson Street.

I spoke with Teri Smith, Executive Directory of the Robson Street Business Area, to find out more about shopping in the area:

Robson Street is Vancouver’s Runway! Famed internationally for being a premier fashion district, Robson offers the best outdoor shopping experience in the city, along with celebrated eateries, diverse people watching and great café culture, all found within three fabulous blocks. Not just set in the heart of downtown, Robson is the heart of downtown, being the main artery connecting people to other iconic city gems like the Vancouver Art Gallery, and English Bay.

Perhaps most significant is how often Robson transforms into a social gathering place for locals and tourists alike, bringing people together for vibrant events such as the 2010 Winter Olympics, the annual Gay Pride Parade, the Zombie Walk and many more.

What are the latest trends/features for shoppers this season?
One of the best things about this season are the beautiful holiday store windows lining the street, displaying the latest fashion trends. Currently, most shop windows are featuring cozy sweaters, gorgeous winter coats with leather or fur detailing, trendy booties and festive holiday themes!

When Spring or Fall comes along, we like to celebrate it by doing something extra special. To welcome Fall this year, we teamed up with local fashion blogger Alexandra Grant of To Vogue or Bust, to feature five seasonal looks and favourite trends. In conjunction, readers had a chance to win a shopping spree to the Robson stores that were featured in each of the five blog posts.

How does the area cater to local and visitors alike?
It’s very important to us that Robson Street remains a premier shopping destination for tourists and locals alike. As Robson continues to evolve, we strive to maintain its integrity, popularity and relevance. Our objective is to attract people to Robson by consistently delivering a clean, safe, and FUN environment.

We aim to do fun things on Robson Street that bring joy and a memorable experience to our customers. For example, we most recently partnered with the West End BIA to kick off the holiday season in style with the Shine, Shop & Dine Trolley Tour. On Robson specifically, we put up elaborate decorative lighting, invited Karla Sax to play live holiday music, and facilitated a Robson Street team to reward lucky shoppers with gift cards to some of the street’s best shops and restaurants.

If you could name just one, what is a main reason to shop Robson?
The incredible outdoor shopping experience! Robson has it all – fresh air, Flagship stores, and great people watching, all in the heart of Downtown, Vancouver.
