As the sky turns blue and the days get warmer, the season of bike riding is slowly coming upon us! With Vancouver’s extensive selection of bike paths, sea-side trails, and greenway networks, it’s no secret that our bike culture is thriving and well.
This weekend, there are two great sales happening in Vancouver for bike lovers or for those of you who just want to save a few dollars buying a bike.
The Vancouver Wheelmen’s 4th annual vintage bike swap meet is happening this Sunday, April 27th from 10-4pm at the Britannica Community Centre (1661 Napier Street) near Commercial Drive.
With a focus on beautiful vintage bikes, cruiser bikes, muscle bikes, BMX bikes, and road bikes, the Vintage Bicycle Swap Meet has something for everyone. If you’re looking for an ultra-rare brake part for your super stylish Peugeot bike that you haven’t been able to find anywhere, chances are you’ll find it here!
The bike swap is organized by the Vancouver Wheelmen, a group of like-minded individuals who collect, fix, restore, and ride old metal bikes. They believe that every bike has a story to tell, and they want to help fix you up with your own bike companion.
If you’re looking for a more action-packed manner to buy a new bike, you may also want to check out the Vancouver Police Department’s Recovered Goods Auction taking place on Saturday, April 26th at 9am sharp.
What happens when the Vancouver Police recover a stolen bike and can’t find its owner? They sell it! The VPD Recovered Goods Auction is a fun time with auctioneers, frantic bidding, and a wide array of things to purchase.
Bidding for bikes can get a little heated, but you may end up getting a steal of a deal for a great bike that is worth way more than you paid for it.
On top of bikes, the VPD also auctions off jewelry, kitchen appliances, scooters, tools, designer merchandise, snowboards, and much more. Check out their flyer for full details on what will be up for auction.
So whether you’re up for an auction, or prefer the vintage feel of the bike swap, this weekend should be THE weekend you buy a bike.
