The Vancouver Art Gallery has just announced a special partnership with TransLink.

Beginning today, January 12, and until February 13, you can travel free on the bus or SkyTrain. The catch: you’ll have to see some art.

Intrigued?

It’s easy. All you have to do is show your validated TransLink tickets, including single fare transfer, FareSaver, monthly FareCard, as well as West Coast Express tickets and passes, at the Gallery admission desk, and the cost of your fare will be discounted from the cost of Gallery admission.

As well, visitors who travel by TransLink will receive a limited edition Emily Carr print when purchasing a Gallery admission. The discount will only be applied with tickets purchased on the day of the visit.

So what can you see?

There are two exhibitions on view at the Vancouver Art Gallery during this promotional period. Unscrolled: Reframing Tradition in Chinese Contemporary Art spotlights the work of 10 contemporary Chinese artists who examine the influence of traditional aesthetics on visual culture in present-day China.

The other exhibit, Emily Carr and Landon Mackenzie: Wood Chopper and the Monkey, is an inter-generational dialogue between the work of iconic British Columbia artist Emily Carr and acclaimed Vancouver painter Landon Mackenzie. The exhibit features 50 works that collectively span more than one hundred years.
