An exciting few months of filming in Vancouver will be kicking off this week, bringing in superheroes, big friendly giants and aliens to our fair city.

The arrival of sunnier weather in Spring means more white trailers and vans will be lining the streets of Vancouver to shoot big blockbusters in Hollywood North.

Rumours had been widely circulated that the Star Trek franchise will be coming to shoot the third instalment in Vancouver (as reported in October), and it looks as if cameras will begin rolling from June 1 to the end of September.

Not to be left out, Steven Spielberg will be filming the childhood favourite Big Friendly Giant based on the book by Roald Dahl.

For fans of the Steven Spielberg, filming for his production began this week and will go all the way until June. The filming is said to be kept undercover with the nickname “Big Valley“, so if you happen to see any signs with that name, keep your eyes peeled for the Oscar-winning director!

For Star Trek fanatics, cameras will begin rolling at Vancouver Film Studios and various locations in BC starting as early as April and going until the end of September. Justin Lin (known for Fast and Furious 6) will be directing the still-untitled film, which will feature Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Cho returning to their roles.

Aside from those two big blockbusters, local hunk Ryan Reynolds will be back in his hometown of Vancouver to return to his role as Deadpool, the character he played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This big-budget movie will be filmed from March 23 to May 23 at Lions Gate Studios in North Vancouver, according to the Directors Guild of Canada.

If that isn’t enough sci-fi and superhero for you, recent rumours have been going around Twitter that the filming of Spiderman’s Sinister Six movie will be looking to film in Vancouver as well. However this is unconfirmed at this time, you can keep track of updates at comicbookmovie.com

You’re going to have to be a part of the biz to get a good look at most of these sets. But, that doesn’t mean you won’t have a chance to run into the stars of these big blockbusters casually strolling down Robson Street!

Keep your eyes peeled for celebrities, and don’t forget to check out the Creative BC Film List for more details on what’s being filmed in Vancouver.
