Get Fancy with #TeaAtTheTop at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

fairmont2There is something rather wonderful about the very British tradition of afternoon tea; a time to sit and chat with friends and enjoy a thoroughly indulgent meal of sweet and savoury treats, with cup after cup of fragrant tea served in dainty cups. One of the city’s most elegant venues, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, has raised the stakes when it comes to tea time by throwing open the doors of their 15th floor restaurant to bring the city Tea at the Top–with one of the best views of Downtown Vancouver.

fairmont3In a city that revels in its love of casual dining – and even more casual clothing– it’s something of a treat to put your yoga gear aside and slip into something more stylish instead. Put on a fancy fascinator and tea gown, or find your best bow tie and afternoon suit and on Sundays you’ll be rewarded for your style, as the ‘best dressed’ table during the 12.30pm and 2.30pm seatings will get a complimentary round of bubbly when they share their look online with a ‘StyleSelfie’ using @fairmontvan and the #teaatthetop hashtag.

Fairmont1But back to the business of what’s being served: the afternoon tea costs $54 and starts with pannacotta with macerated fruits, then it’s on to the glorious spectacle of the traditional triple-tiered tea service arriving at your table. On top you’ll find warm buttery scones ready to be slathered with house-made preserves and Devonshire cream. Delicate macarons, flaky mille-feuille, strawberry charlotte and other sweet treats cluster temptingly on the middle tier, and on the bottom, you’ll find the savories: adorable mini-bagels with salt beef spiked with mustard, aromatic spiced curried free range chicken on a caraway roll and fresh dungeness crab crake with a creamy herbacious sauce gribiche and more.

fairmont4The hardest decision you’ll have to make is which tea to choose, pick from a dizzying array of green, black and herb blends specially created for the Fairmont. Favourites include Versailles Lavender Earl Grey and Lovers Leap, which pairs perfectly with the scones. You can also upgrade your tea to a Champagne Tea, Bridal Shower Tea or Baby Shower Tea, and children can indulge in Bubblegum Tea ($27) with finger sandwiches, fresh strawberries and cream, a giant chocolate chip cookie, mini jello and a seasonal fruit tartlet. Gluten free or vegan? No problem – let them know when you book and they’ll create something special just for you.

Tea is served every day at 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Call 604-662-1900 to book or reserve here.

  1. I have heard so much about the teatime at the Fairmont, I really need to try this soon! Another good spot for fancy tea and delicous treats is La Petie Cuillere at Main and Kingsway but of courese they don’t have the views of the Fairmont! :)
