If you’ve not heard of it before, prepare to get thoroughly excited about the return of Top Drop Vancouver, a unique two day event that brings together wineries, craft breweries, and cideries from around the world and then pairs them with delicious sustainably farmed foods. Top Drop Vancouver’s Main Event is a charity fundraising grand tasting and there are a brace of thrilling winery dinners that have tickets available too.

topdrop1A food and wine event with a mission, the team behind Top Drop Vancouver have strong beliefs about what we put in our glass or on our plates: “Our focus is terroir-influenced, handcrafted wines, and the people behind them. We believe in the importance in farming one’s own fruit and/or being constantly engaged with grape-growers to ensure sustainability and a high standard of viticultural practices. We believe in wines that reflect their vintage, and wines that aren’t suffocated by vinicultural trickery. We believe in winemaking decisions that are made by a winemaker, and not by a board of directors or marketing team. We believe in those who take chances. We believe these kinds of wines, honest wines of integrity, need a time and place to have their story told. We also believe craft beer, cider, along with authentic and sustainable produce, dairy, meat and seafood are part of the same conversation, which is why we’re proud to showcase some of our best in those areas.”

With that in mind, you can expect to try some truly exciting wines, beers and ciders at the Main Event and really dive into them at the Top Drop Dinner Series. Sip, sniff, swirl and taste your way around this fun night at the Yaletown Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre on Friday September 11th from 7-9.30p.m., which will raise much-needed money for the BC Hospitality Foundation, which provides financial support to those in the hospitality industry who are facing a major medical crisis. You can taste wines from Chile, Australia, South Africa and, of course, Canada– along with ciders and beers from right here in B.C. Locally inspired small bites are provided to enhance your experience. Tickets are just $59.

Get a more intimate experience at one of the winery dinners right here in Vancouver on Thursday 10th September at 7pm, at Cinara, Edible Canada and Wildebeest, or head up the Sea to Sky to Whistler’s Alta Bistro for a chef-inspired extravaganza for $99 plus tax and tip. Cinara’s chef Lucais Syme is showcasing a multi-course menu of delights such as chilled Chilliwack corn soup, scallop & succotash, and hazelnut crespelle, cotechino, ricotta, fava & peas paired with wines from some of the world’s finest artisinal wineries.

topdrop2Edible Canada’s dinner will be hosted and prepared by chef Sarah Stewart, for a group of just 30 guests in Edible Canada’s private long table dining space. On the menu, treats including sweet pea empanada, and seared albacore tuna with select wines from five amazing British Columbian vineyards.

Over in Gastown at Wildebeest, chef Pekka Tavela is preparing a five course menu for diners at the long table in their wine bar, which promises to ‘highlight the breadth of styles to be found from five exceptional producers from around the globe.’ Dishes include Atlantic oysters, horseradish foam, citrus caviar and braised bison, roman gnocchi, cipollini onions and pancetta.

It’s all for a good cause and is guaranteed to be all kinds of delicious, so snap up a ticket today!
