Next wave of Vancouver musical talent showcased this Thursday

This Thursday marks the climax of the Peak Performance Project. Over the last seven years, the Project has groomed bands from throughout B.C. for the next stage of their careers. Through writing workshops and live showcases, the PPP has brought a wealth of local talent to the attention of music lovers across the province and beyond.

On Nov. 19 at the Commodore Ballroom (868 Granville St.), the finalists of the last year for the initiative will take the stage. Let’s take a look at who’s made it to the final round of the final round.

Van Damsel –  Second time’s the charm for this Kamloops, B.C.-based quartet. After scrapping a first stab at recording a debut full-length in 2013, the indie-pop quartet released its album earlier this year. Similarly, the group previously took part in the Peak Performance Project, in 2013. This year, the group’s of-the-moment mix of upbeat, guitar-and-synth driven sounds with elements of rock, pop, hip-hop, and EDM have brought them to this year’s finals.

JP Maurice – Formerly in a band that had been signed to a major label until things went sideways, Maurice is finding second life as a solo singer/songwriter. Late last year he released The Arborist, and since then he’s been featured in Canadian music festival showcases and toured Canada. Maurice’s second full-length is expected soon.

Bed of Stars – We’re wondering if Evan Konrad’s sister didn’t write the bio for his music project Bed of Stars. Will the 22-year-old musician live up to the statement that he “is that rarest of gems – the true musical brilliance that the world so rarely sees”? You can find out yourself by listening to songs off his debut I Fell In Love With the City, or by catching him at the Commodore in the 2015 Peak Performance Project finals Nov. 19.
