Want to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Vancouver with a DJ? Just step out your door and walk into any restaurant or bar. Want to celebrate NYE 2016 with a live band? Here are some of your options.

New Year’s Eve Van (Canada Place Way, Coal Harbour) – Some of B.C.’s most buzzed-about bands play this family friendly outdoor countdown. Acts include Bed of Stars, Current Swell, We Are the City, and the Matinee. Free.

Yob (Rickshaw Theatre, 254 E. Hastings St.) – What better way to spend midnight than with a glass of bubbly and doom-metal from Portland? Yob fulfills this NYE dream along with fellow doomspitters Bison and Astrakhan. Tickets $25 at Neptoon, Red Cat, Scrape and ticketfly.com.

One Night Stand VIII (Imperial, 319 Main St.) – The annual event features some of the city’s top musicians covering favourite songs. Guests include members of Yukon Blonde, Rococode, Brasstronaut and Hey Ocean. Tickets $50 at HipCityMusic.ca/tickets.

Motown New Year’s (Fox Cabaret, 2321 Main St.) – Comedy with the Sunday Service along with live music from premiere Vancouver pop/soul band The Ballantynes. Tickets $32 at eventbrite.ca.
