Everyone usually has the same old New Year’s resolutions that are either about losing weight, eating better, exercising, etc.. etc.. Not only are those resolutions not exactly fun they are hard to keep up (unless you are one of those really dedicated people). Instead of making resolutions that will find you in a packed gym, surrounded by hundreds of other people who have pledged to lose 5 pounds, here are five Vancouver-specific resolutions that are not only fun to do, but will be easy (in some cases) to accomplish.
Try one or try them all! Here are the 5 Vancouver-specific resolutions that you can make this 2016:
Do the Polar Bear Plunge
The best thing about this resolution is that you can get it over and done with quickly! On Friday, January 1st head down to English Bay at 12:30 to participate in the annual and infamous Polar Bear Swim.
Most people in Vancouver don’t have the guts to get into their bathing suit in the middle of December. You’ll be getting in your bathing suit (or a costume), and plunging into the freezing cold water of the Pacific Ocean! Sound like fun? It’s not. But, it’s something new and will give you bragging rights for the entire year (or hypothermia…)
Visit all the Escape Rooms in Vancouver (and try to actually escape from one)
Escape Rooms in Vancouver have become a huge craze over the last year. There are now over 15 Escape Room venues in the Lower Mainland and six in the Downtown area alone. If you’re still in the dark about Escape Rooms, essentially you are locked in a room and forced to work as a team to try and solve a mystery or escape from a certain scenario.
It’s a challenge and very fun for dates, family parties, birthday shindigs, or other group events where you want to get scared and shout at your friends. Your challenge for 2016 is to try out the six escape rooms in the Vancouver area and actually escape from one. It’s much tougher than it sounds.
Ski, Golf, and Kayak all on the same day
There’s an age-old saying that Vancouver is great because you can “ski, golf, and kayak all on the same day” due to the warm weather and proximity of ocean to mountain in this fair city. However, actually doing this is pretty tough. Your challenge for 2016 is to spend the morning skiing on Grouse, drive down to a pitch-n-putt golf course in West Vancouver or Stanley Park, and then rent a kayak (or paddle board) for an evening paddle to enjoy the sunset. Think you can handle that? You’ll get a good sleep after accomplishing this resolution!
Go Bungee Jumping in Whistler (naked)
Okay, you don’t have to go naked – but bungee jumping is a great way to do something this year that really scares you. The Whistler bungee bridge is the only bungee jumping in the Vancouver area – and it’s a great way to enjoy the scenery (while screaming out of extreme fear). There used to be rumours that you could go bungee jumping for free if you did it naked, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the case anymore.
Eat the Whole Thing at Anton’s Restaurant
Instead of doing the “eating less, eating right” kind of thing, this year why not try and eat the whole thing at Anton’s Pasta Restaurant in Burnaby? This restaurant is famous for their extremely large portions and regularly have lines stretching down the block of hungry people looking to stuff their stomachs for cheap. The dinner portions can feed a whole family, but you’ve got to try to finish it off yourself!
