The nominees for the 45th Juno Awards were announced earlier today. The Canadian equivalent of the Grammys, the annual event rewards success as recognized by the music industry. To no one’s surprise, Toronto chart-toppers Drake, the Wknd, Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber (well, he’s originally from Stratford, Ontario, but close enough) led the pack.

Vancouver musicians and groups accounted for a respectable number of nominees, with the strongest showing by Tobias Jesso Jr. The Vancouver singer/songwriter had a breakout year for his debut solo album Goon and some high-profile songwriting credits (Adele, Sia).

Another Vancouver act that is new to the Junos is rock band Dear Rouge, who released their debut album earlier this year. Cellist Cris Derksen received a nod for her album Orchestral Powwow. Indie-rock sensation Destroyer received its second nomination, while perennials like Nickelback, Bryan Adams and Hedley are also acknowledged. The winners will be announced April 3 with a televised ceremony in Calgary.

Here’s a list of Vancouver artists nominated for Juno Awards.
