The familiar red and white tents set up in Vanier Park mean only one thing – that one of the city’s favorite summer festivals is well under way.

June 3 marks the kick off of the 27th year of Bard on the Beach, and an exciting lineup of plays, concerts and special events is planned. The festival runs until September 24, with Romeo and Juliet headlining the BMO Mainstage, alternating evenings with Bard’s Jessie Award-winning 2012 production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. The latter is a fun twist on the comedy classic, but set to 60s pop music. William Shakespeare himself would surely approve.

Also in the mix of classic plays that make up this fest, is what some deem as the ultimate tragedy, Othello, but this time set amidst the racism and violence of the American Civil War. Fans of the exotic and mythical Pericles, will be pleased to see it included in the line up as well.

Be sure and check out Bard-B-Q & Fireworks events, which includes a play, dinner, on-site entertainment and exclusive fireworks viewing. Wine Wednesdays make for a fun night out, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has also partnered with Bard for a few culture-rich events.

Tickets for Bard on the Beach’s 27th season are on sale now, starting at $20.

To book tickets, order online through the Bard website or call the Bard Box Office at 604-739-0559 or (toll free) 1-877-739-0559.
