Vancouver’s Italian Day Is Back – Sunday, June 12th

Commercial Drive (aka Little Italy) hosts its annual street festival for the 7th year, this Sunday, June 12th.

italian_day_photos_with_italian_day_logo_1113-blocks of The Drive have been home for over 30 Italian businesses, some for as long as 50 years, and boy do they know how to throw a party. Over 300,000 attendees flock to the area to celebrate Vancouver’s largest cultural street festival, and this years theme is perfetto – food! Just think, all your favorite Italian foods in a culinary stroll – pizza, pasta, cannoli, sfogliatelle, arancini, polpette, panini, gelato, granita, and coffee. Take part in an olive oil sampling, try some cheeses and salumi, and with 150 vendors and
merchants participating, come hungry. Be sure and check out the cooking demonstrations at the La Grotta Del Formaggio, learning about sausage making and quick Italian meals.

italian_day_photos_with_italian_day_logo_1Al fresco dining is set up in over 20 restaurant patios, and the Drive will buzz with all kinds of entertainment, activities, vendors and attractions. The Opening Ceremony of the festival starts at noon at the 2nd Ave Main Stage. Visit the 3rd Ave piazza, which will include fashion vignettes, and a consortium of Italian language, culture, food and agri-product conversations, with representation from the Italian Consul General, the Italian Chamber of Commerce, Il Centro and Italian cooking schools.

italian_day_photos_with_italian_day_logo_29With 3 separate stages and several DJ music tents, get your groove on with Federico Fuoco and Carmelina Cupo on the 2nd Ave Main Stage for starters. On the Grant Street Stage, programming by Il Centro (Italian Culture Centre) will include jazz, theatre, and opera featuring the Cory Weeds Quartet and the Vancouver and City Operas.

In Grandview Park, complimenting a large food and family activity piazza, entertainment on the Amphitheatre Park Stage ranges
from theatre, to live music, to contests and more. Think human foosball, bicycle polo and a kidzone. At the Vancity Piazza (7th Ave), a vintage cars and motorcycles exhibit will feature new Ducatis and Fiats, Car2Go and more.
