Vancouver Screen Scene: From Jesse Metcalfe to The 100

Jesse Metcalfe

Will Jesse Metcalfe’s buff body save him when he stars in the thriller The Ninth Passenger?

This week’s roundup of productions shooting in Vancouver includes a rundown of some of the films bringing big names to town as well as TV series launching into production this week.

But first up, here’s a film that starts shooting today.

Production on The Ninth Passenger, the feature film directorial debut of Ian Pfaff, gets underway today (July 11) and continues shooting until July 30.

The cast includes Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives, John Tucker Must Die) and Veronica Dunne (K.C. Undercover), as well as Vancouver’s own Corey Large (It Follows) and Alexia Fast (Jack Reacher).

The thriller follows a group of college students who decided take an impromptu sail on the ocean during the night. But when they drift on to a dark island, they discover they’re being hunted down by someone else.

Meanwhile, July 18 will see some major productions, boasting some big box-office names, kick into gear.

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts will light up the town with her million dollar smile.

Production will begin on Wonder, starring Julia Roberts and Vancouver’s Jacob Tremblay.

Tremblay stars as a boy with a facial deformity who attends a school for the first time, after having been homeschooled for years by his mother (Roberts).

Another production kicking off that day will be Why We’re Killing Gunther, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Arnold Schwarzenegger promised he would be back. And he kept his promise.

This action-comedy feature film follows an international collection of assassins who go after the world’s top hitman (Schwarzenegger) but somehow can never seem to catch him.
