Say ‘hi’ to Vancouver’s latest craft brewery!

Vancouver’s newest craft brewery, is now officially open for business. Located at 1830 Ontario St., Faculty Brewing Co. opened its doors to the general public Aug 2. First beers include a blonde, a mint heffe (a minzeweizen, a milky wheat beer brewed with peppermint tea), a pale ale made with Chinook hops, and a dry-oaked stout.

So, what’s their story?

According to the website, Faculty “was created to be an inclusive and open environment for beer drinkers of any level. We believe that increasing craft beer education will increase craft beer consumption.

“Faculty Brewing Co. is the brainchild of husband-and-wife team Mauricio, the head brewer, and Alicia, the architect behind the brewery’s design. Seeing a need to make craft beer more accessible to the masses, they found their perfect location in the former space of bicycle shop Pedal Bike Depot and began to make their idea a reality.”

The name came from Mauricio’s experience as a professor, and “the wish to educate and empower people with craft beer knowledge, and the idea that the brewery would share all the information behind the brewing process, including the recipes.”

The Faculty facility is a seven-barrel, 1450-square-foot operation with six fermentors and six beer tanks. A 28-seat tasting room is situated within the brewery, with four taps to choose from. Taps change weekly. There is also a selection of snacks for sale, including charcuterie, cheese, hummus, salsa and olives. The owners add, “If you’re hungrier, we encourage you to bring in take-out food to enjoy, with our beer, in the tasting room!”

Hours are Mon-Fri 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on weekends.
